Chapter Activities
Commemorative displays are presented by our chapter at the Whittier Library in May, June, July, September, November, and December.
Flags are given at Whittier and Whitwood libraries in May, June, and November.
Constitution booklets are given in September for Constitution Week with a proclamation from Whittier's mayor.
Our chapter provides two speakers each year for lunch at the library event.
Each year at the Whittier Founders Day, our chapter provides a booth with information on John Greenleaf Whittier Chapter, NSDAR, giving approximately 100 flags to those answering questions about American history.
Tattered and torn flags are collected and given to the Boy Scouts for retirement.
The Pocket Flag project is ongoing, providing a flag in a plastic envelope with a John Greenleaf Whittier, NSDAR, name card. Magazines, bottled water, and snacks are also placed in the airport room where military personnel await their flights.
Magazines are collected and sent to active-duty troops.
Small stuffed animals are collected and donated to local police and fire departments.
